Exponential AI Growth Requires Exponential Leadership Change: Are You Ready?
By Andy Murray, Executive Chairman and Founder

A notable AI expert recently predicted that artificial intelligence (AI) could improve by a factor of one million in the next four years because of simultaneous advancements in algorithms, hardware, and computer infrastructure.
If this striking assertion proves to be true, it raises a critical question: "How will leaders lead and what role will leaders play in the very near future?"
In a recent episode of "It's a Customer's World," I had the privilege of interviewing the insightful Rishad Tobaccowala, author and thought leader on the future of work and most recently Global Strategist and Chief Growth Officer of Publicis Groupe. Our conversation deeply explored how the exponential growth of AI is reshaping leadership and profoundly impacting workplaces everywhere.
We discussed how business now finds itself at an inflection point. As AI accelerates at an unprecedented pace, automating many traditional managerial tasks, the very essence of leadership needs to be redefined. “We have entered an era of de-bossification, where leadership must evolve from command-and-control to empathy, inspiration, and cultivating human potential,” said Rishad.
The critical question now becomes: How do we grow human-centered leadership exponentially to match the rapid pace of technological advancement? As Rishad aptly pointed out, "AI will deliver efficiencies by getting things done faster and cheaper ... by unleashing insights and freeing up human time." Leaders today must harness this freed-up time to nurture an environment where genuine human connection, empathy, and strategic innovation thrive.
This shift demands continuous personal growth from leaders — not merely in technical knowledge but in emotional intelligence, strategic acumen, and human-centric skills.
While agentic AI will produce wickedly fast answers, leaders will need to master the art of asking the better questions.
Our limitations will be based not on our level of capability, but on our level of curiosity.
Measurement will be based on outcomes, not hours worked or where those hours are worked.
There will be less focus on time-in-office and more on time-in-meaningful-conversation.
It's an exciting and challenging era that calls for us all to rethink what it truly means to lead.
I encourage you to listen to my full conversation with Rishad to gain further insights. In the meantime, I invite you to reflect: How is the exponential advancement of AI reshaping leadership roles in your organization? How are you preparing yourself and your team to lead with greater empathy and human connection?
